ADDINCTON STOCK SALE. A DOUBLE MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 7. The “double” market at the Addington stock yards yesterday attracted heavy entries ‘in all departments. The yardings were much in excess of last week’s. The 600 or so head of fat cattle yarded was generally in very good condition, with prime mediumweight animals comprising the bulk of the entry. Values for beef showed a decline of from 10s to 30s a head. Store cattle prices eased slightly In sympathy with the fall in beef values. Dairy flattie had a good sale, especially near the start, when prices ■were slightly higher than at the last sale. In a poor-quality yarding of vealers the better animals sold briskly at recent rates. In a heavy yarding of fat sheep woolly ewes showed a decline of from 3s to 4s a head, woolly wethers from 2s to 3s a head, and unfinished shorn sheen from Is 6d . to 2s. Prime shorn sheep almost held to last week’s rates. The tone of the store sheep sale was firmer owing to the recent rain, but there was no quotable change in prices. Over 900 spring lambs came forward. Prime lambs generally held to last week’s values, but the I'ghter sorts dropped by up to Id per lb. The average price per lb. was 9d to lOd. There was a good demand for fat pigs, though porkers were slightly back in price. In the store pig pens medium weaners were slightly easier, though there was generally a brisk snl°. FAT CATTLE. Medium weight prime steer and light-weight heifer beef made/ from 46= to ABs per ICOlb., occasional pens slightly more, medium-weight prime 42s 6d to 465. heavy 40s to 43s 6d good cows 4ls to 445, secondary 36s to 89= and rough down to 335. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers, to £22 12' fid. Heavy prime steersi£lß to £2l. Medium-weight prime steers, £l7 to £U9 10s. Ordinary steers £l3 10s to £l6 10s. Light steers £ll to £l3 6s. Tnere was a fair yarding of store cattle, and the sale throughout was satisfactory, though values eased back a little in sympathy with the lower beef prices. A line of twenty-six two and three-year-old Hereford steers sold at -com £lO 2s 6d to £l2 10s 6d, other sorts ranging from £9 10s to £ll. The .best of the heifers made up to £8 12s 6ds and' yearling heifers to £3 9s. Good fresh cows sold at from £8 10s to £9. There was a fair demand for young bulls, the'.top price for which was £9 os. DAIRY CATTLE. There was an entry of sixty head, v aliout the same as last week, The quality was only fair, a great number still showing the effects of the late spring. At the outset prices were a little in advance of those of the previous week, but as the sale progressed values eased to last week’s level.' Values were:— ‘ Ebctra prime second and third calveivs to £ls. Best second and third calvers £ll to £l3. Medium cows £9 to £lO. Aged and inferior £4 15s to £B. Best heifers £9 10s to £ll. Medium heifers, £8 to £9. Others £6 to £7 10s. VEALERS. There was a fair entry of vealers but not a great number fqr a double market. The general quality was poor. Store pigs met with a brisk sale at prices well up to those of last week for large sorts and the better weaners. Medium weaners were slightly easier. The yarding was only a medium one for a double market, and there was a large attendance of buyers. Values were:— Large stores 43s to 49s 6d. Medium 38s to 42s 6d. Small 29s 6d to 375. Scrips 26s to 295. Medium weaners 21s to 24s 6d. Other weaners 16s to 18s 6d. Sows in pig, £3 to £4 10s.
