LATE LOCALS.

A distinguished visitor to Hokitika next week, will be the Right Rev. Prof. Hewitson, Moderator of -the Presbyterian Church, New Zealand. A welcome is to be tendered to him at St. Andrew’s Hall next Friday evening. The Mayor will attend;and also representatives of local churches. Mr and Mrs Arnold Perry and Miss Duff will contribute items and supper will be provided by the ladies. Prof. Hewitson will occupy the pulpit of St. Andrew’s on Sunday, November 17th.

The fancy dress ball in(the Public Hall Kokat-ahi on Wednesday evening ijl aid of the electric light fund for the hail attracted a large attendance many visitors attending from ail parts of the district. .) (Therea good many fancy costumesv : i : 4'jThe waltzing competition attracted,, an entry o>f 21 couples and , "award weift to Miss Coulson andSlMr' Christehion. The prizes for best fancy costume were awarded Miss Vera Marshall and Air Mclntosh Mrs.- W. Diedrich and Air F. AfcGregor judged the dancing and Airs Yarrall judged the fancy costumes. The Southern Cross Jazz Band supplied excellent music and the general arrangements, were very complete, a highly successful gathering resulting, dancing being kept going merrily till an early hour.
