DUNEDIN, November 8

The .steamer Lawbeath, with phosphates, is still held up at Port Chalmers, through the. watersiders refusing to work the vessel. - It is estimated that the hold-up is costing the owners £l5O per day.

The agents of the Lawbeath say that the owners and charterers are emphatic that the Captain shall not concede in any way to the demands of the crow jj'or New Zealand conditions and prAvidoring. They say the ship will be worked.

•Tolin James, an immigrant farm labourer, aged 21, pleaded guilty before Justices to-day and was committed for sentence on a charge of breaking and entering Auroa Store on the morning of Sunday, October 20th and stealing £3 ss.

DRIVER FINED ASHBURTON, Nov. 8

William Wilson, of Riverside, was fined £3O and delicensed for three years for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car.

Counsel said hej was affected by rum taken owing to a very bad cold. He did not drive while under.the influence.

Magistrate Orr-Walker took a serious view, because of the previous convictions. Only his horror of- sending a man to gaol; prevented‘a sentence as a warning to others.
