WESTLAND PROGRESS LEAGUE
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER Gth. The Executive of the above met at 7.30 o'clock. Present: Dr Teichelmann (President), Messrs W. Wilson, W. Jeffries, W. E. Richards, D. J. Evans, J. J. Mclntosh, and H. G. Coles. ■Apology made for the absence of Mr J. C. Macfarlane. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence approved. ■ INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Canterbury Progress -League, acknowledging report of executive meeting and supplying minutes of October meeting of parent body.—Received. From John Murdoch, Ross, forwarding circular letter regarding honey control.—Received. From J. Rentoul, Chairman Export Honey Control, replying to the former circular.—Received. From Westland County Clerk, setting out the position in respect to the Kumarn-Kapitea road, stating last session vote authorised in March was now expended; and that the vote from this session would be put in hand when the authority was received. The opinion was expressed also, that the authorities did not contemplate at present carrying the road beyond Ivapitea. — Received and resolved to 'forward a copy of the letter to the Greymouth Chamber of Commerce which body liad raised the question. In the course of a discussion on the matter, -vlr Mclntosh urged strongly that every effort should be made to push the road through. Mr Mclntosh thought other roads might be dropped in order that this work should have precedence. From Eric James, Makarora, supplying particulars of South Westland horseback tours, and reporting on North Island lecture tour; also making recommendations regarding huts for tourist traffic in the south.—Received.
From Southland Progress League forwarding particulars and government reports on the question of a road to Mi 1 fold Sound.—Received. GENERAL.
The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £l9 10s. Accounts £5 10s 7d were passed for payment. There were in. addition contingent liabilities to the amount of £ls.—Received, and it was resolved annual subscriptions be collected.
A report was received in respect to the proposals to participate in the next Winter Show at Christchurch with a Westland hay. In the course of discussion, Mr Jeffries regretted the farmers were not showing greater interest in the project, as without general support with exhibits and finance, the display would not he a success. It was mentioned committees had been formed at Arabura- and Kokatahi-Koiterangi, and it was the intention to get into touch with the southern farmers. It was resolved to write the organiser of the Winter Show at Christchurch, and ascertain the definite terms on which Westland might exhibit; and that in the meantime the matter of securing samples of wool exhibits, and skins and hides suitable for inclusion in the bav be taken in hand: The meeting concluded at 8.30 p.m.
