WOMAN KILLED,

AUCKLAND. Nov. 6
An elderly woman, Airs Elizabeth C. Tocker, a resident of Epsom, Was knocked down by taxi cab after alighting from a tram ear at 10.40 last night, and died on the way to the hospital. '1 ne driver of the taxi was James Frost, of Edeudale.
FIREWORKS ACCIDENT.
BOY LOSES FOUR FINGERS
HASTINGS, November 6
A distressing accident occurred last evening during the Guy Fawke’s celebrations on Nelson Park. Gordon Peterson, aged thirteen years, set alight to what he thought was a Roman candle but which proved to he a “ bomb,” with the result that the explosion blew off four fingers of his left hand, injured the left eye seriously, and he also received scalp wounds. He was hospitalled.

WELLINGTON, November 6
The Golf Council elected M. J. Crorabie a member of the Appaal Committee in place oif Mr Bnlneayis. In view of the reply from the Australian Golf Union, arrangements are to be gone on with for the Kirk-Win-deyer Cup tournament to b,6"played at Shirley Links on April 14th to 17th. No reply has been received from the Royal Ancient Society to the inquiry whether it could permit the use of steel-shafted clubs in New Zealand.
The only# application so far for the New Zealand Championships in 1930 is Manawatu.
NEW AEltO CLUB. HAMILTON, Nov. 6. A meeting is being held next week to consider the formation of an Aero Club at Hamilton. The town already has a private Coy. Hamilton Airways Ltd. Grant Dalton, Director of Air Services, approved of the area of 68 acres of domain land, close to the town, which is considered an excellent landing ground.
MURDER CHARGE.

AUCKLAND Nov. 6
■Giving evidence for the defence in the charge of murder Mrs Caffrey, wife of the accused, said Caffrey and Byrne went out of Caffreys home about 6.40 p.m. She identified the blood stained dark trousers and brown boots produced as having belonged to Byrne. She denied, having seen in her house a sheath knife, produced. Bvrne, changed his shirt and the next day she found the brown boots in the wash-house.
