ATTACKED BY INTRUDER
GROCER STUNNED BY HEAVY BLOW. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 5. A blow from some unknown intruder knocked Mr It. R. Munro, grocer, unconscious at the rear of his house in Victoria St., near Montreal St. on Saturday evening. The intruder es- , capcd without being seen by anyone. Mr Munro, who was alone in the house at the time, heard someone tam.pering with his garage, the doors of which were fastened by a chain and a, nadlock. He went from his kitchen to the back door, where he stood irj resolute as to whether. he should reI turn for some sort of weapon, before i’ investigating further. While standing there he was struck heavily on the .'forehead probably by a stone, which 1 knocked him unconscious. When he recovered there was no one about. The garage held a car which was slightly too long for it, and the doors i could not be closed tightly. The car belonged to Mr Munro’s son-in-law, who was leaving with his bride thatevening by the ferry steamer. The (rest of Mr Munro’s family were at i Lyttelton seeing the newly married couple depart.
