TRIBUTE TO NEW ZEALAND

SYDNEY, November 5

The u Evening News,” commenting on the Melbourne Cup, says that it proved a wonderful triumph for the Dominion, the three placed horses being all New Zealand bred, while the jockeys of Night-march and Paquito, Reed and MeCarten, were also New Zealanders. R. IT. Telford, who trains and leases Phar Lap, is also a New Zealander. There had been adverse comment about Roy Reed’s riding of Nightmarch, and it was thought that he would be substituted by another jockey for the Cup, but Mr A. Louisson and Trainer McAuley declined to - yield • to. the criticism. Mr Louisson to-day is a proud man. He declared that it had been his ambition to win the Melbourne Cup, and money would not now buy Nightmarch.
