A CENTENARIAN. DUNEDIN, November 5. Ca-'dain Christopher Welch celebrated his hundredth birthday at Port Chalmers to-day. The Chairman of the Harbour Board called and made a present on the Board’s behalf and the Master Mariners presented a cheque. Captain Welch, who retired from the sea nineteen years ago, came to Port Chalmers in 1862 in his own schooner, carrying 488 diggers for Gabriels Gully gold rush. He has had an adventurous life in all pails of the world.
