Under the new conditions probationers desirous of qualifying lbr admission to a 'J raining College will be required lo obtain a pass or a partial pass ill an examination to be Knou 11 as the J raining College entrance examination. ’Jiiis provision does not come into operation untd Alarch next, so khan the first probationers to be effected will be those appointed to cc.ty at the beginning of next year. 'I he syllabus for the examination will pioviuo for the examination to be nek! in nine subjects, namely, elocut/011, writing, freehand drawing, blackboard drawing, English language, and composition, (geography, history and civi.s, arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. To pass the examination candidates will be required to show a good standard of attainment in a.l the subjects named above. To obtain a partial pass candidates must show a good standard of attainment in at leaA seven of the subjects prescribed, including not less than three of the subjects—English language and com portion, arithmetic, • geography, history, and civics. Candidates who have ga.necl liighep leaving certificates or equivalent quaiiiications will be entitled to exemption from, examination in the subjects in winch they have secured the qualification. In future the students admitted to Training Colleges will be classified as follows :
Division A—Students who have completed courses as probationers, student teachers, or k.ndergarten teacli-
DTvision B—Students who pay fees for tuition and training. Division C—-Graduates of some approved university. Division D—Students admitted in general for short courses. The provision for admitting paying students is introduced into the Training Cbllege regulations for the first time. The fees payabe have ibeen fixed at £7 7s per term. No allowance will, of course, be paid to such students nor will the students be required to bind themselves to teach in Government schools as in the case with students in classes A, 0, and D. The Division B. Studentships should thus afford training facilities to teachers in private schools or to young person." not qualified for admission in the other classes. The revised regulations contain a number of other amendments mainly affecting the administration of the colleges and the actual training of the isuaents. The procedure to be followed in advertising vacancies and making appointments to the staffs of Training College is more specially set out than has hitherto been the case. A clause has also been introduced setting out the circumstances in which a student ship may be terminated with the approval of the Alinister for Education.
