ANGLICAN BISHOP
URGES NEED OF RELIGION. (By Telegraph—Press Association). HAMILTON, Nov. 2. A striking statement in favour of religious education was made by Bishop C'her.rington at a garden parly to-day in connection with the laying of the foundation stone of a new Anglican Diocesan School for girls. His Lordship paid a high tribute to the Roman Catholic Church for its educational efforts. Dr Oherrington said: “Education without a religious basis is a miserable affair. It cannot ho called education in the true sensei. All parents have the right to expect that their children shall he taught their own religion by teachers who believe it. We of the Church of England are far behind in this respect; but, wo are now doing out best to atone for our past neglect by establishing diocesan schools. I look for the day when we shall lie* able in each of our parishes, ,to have at least one primary school where the teaching of our Church can be fully given. All honour to the Church in this country which has that as its aim! May we follow in its steps! Meantime we arc making a beginning.”
