Sir Kingsley "Wood (Conservative) said the resolution committed them to an expenditure of one hundred millions in the course of the next sixteen years. He said that the social services in Britain were costing 78s pei; capita, compared with 32s in Germany, 16s in France, 3s in' Italy, and 4s in Belgium. He said that one of the reasons why Britain was unable to keep down costs aiid regain markets was the cost of such services. Air Arthur Greenwood said that he was not afraid of the rising cost of the social services. The national savings amounted to £450,000,600 each year. The assets of the nation within the past five years had increased by £2,250,000,444. The resolution was ,carried.
