PHAB LAP’S FINE WIN. MELBOURNE, Nov. 3. '1 he weather was fine and warm, and “li-re' was. an enormous attendance at die \ .R.C. Races, including the Gov jrnor-General (Lord Stonehaven) and iour State Governors, also several New Se landers. The going was fast. 'there was a stirring contest in the Melbourne Stakes. High Syce caught 1. pacemaker, .MoHi.son, in the hast ten yards, was interrupted in his passage to the.straight, but he came, a good third. Trainer, Holt has won this race twice previously with Eurythmic. ~ Pliar Lap was fourth early, but won the ■■Derby handsomely. The rider, dike, won this race in previous-seasons on Beragoon, Beverage and Strephon. The first..prize is valued, at £4,456. Pliar Lao was-bred in New Zealand, :nd cost 160 guineas. He has won approximately £14,000. Maiden Plate:—Lineage 1, Pliocis Happy Warrior 3. 14 started. Won ay a short head. Time 1.391, a race record.
