AN EXPLOSION
WRECKS ' A BUILDING

AUCKLAND, Nov. 1
An explosion in Ivarangahape Road, Newton, at 2 o’clock this morning completely wrecked Howie’s gramophone shop. Gramophones, panatropes, records and accessories were flung in all directions. The foundations were removed and partitions shifted. The damage is estimated at two thousand pounds. The explosion was caused by bitumen gas resulting from a fused electric power cable. o
The Economy Store adjoining, had a plate glass window smashed 'and small goods were scattered over the pavement. Sixty feet distant across the street two windows in the upstairs part of a building were smashed. Following the explosion, a fire broke out and the flames crept into the Bristol Piano, ‘Oo.ys premises but were suppressed immediately by the Brigade.
