The Customs; Amendment Bill was received from the House and- read a first time. Tim Council rose at 4.35 p.m. - 5 THE'HOUSE. of Representatives the Native “Washing Up” Bill was inflddd'ced - by Mhe; message and read <a first time. It was then .read a second time pro forma and referred to the Native Affairs Committee. During the evening three local Bills were introduced by the Gover-nor-General’s’mesage. ~ A local legislation Bill was read a first time and referred to the Local [Bills Committee. The “Washing Up” Bill was road a first time and referred to the first Lands Committee. . .. The Railway Authorisation Bill was read a first time. The Railways Authorisation '.Bill provides authority for. the following sections of line to be undertaken: South Island Main Trunk Line:— From the present end .at Clarep.ce River to Parnassus (about 54 miles). East Coast Main Line:— From a point on the existing Gis-bome-Ngatapa lin'e southwards, via Wharereta, to junction with the line from Wairoa to Waikokopu (about. 35 miles). Midland (South Island) Line:— From the end of the line at Murchison to Inangahua (about 28 miles 40 chains), Hutt Valley. Line,—A branch line from the Hut't. ValUy [deviation to Point Howard, Lowry Bay (about - miles 30 chains).
The Public Works Statement was discussed, after which • the Public Works Estimates were, submitted and passed under tbe following heads., General Purposes Account, £5,001,339; Eilectric Supply Account, £l,124,000; Waihou and Ohinemuri Rivers Improvement Account, £25,000 >, Main Highways Construction Fund, £l,2{p,o<>o; Railways Improvement Authorisation Account,: - £1,615,183; Education Loans Acount, • £427,000; Hauraki Plains Settlement' Account, £34,500; Rangitikei. Land Drainage Account, £5,500; Swamp Land Drainage Account, £57,000. The House rose at 2.37 a.m.
