OBITUARY
(Australian Press Association) SYDNEY, October 30. 'The death is recorded of Mr F. B. S. Falkiner, who is described as having been one of the wealthiest pastoralists in Australia. He was 62 years of age. His death occurred after a brief illness at Foxglow Station, Quanbeyan. He leaves a widow and two daughteis, one of whom is Mrs Lowry, of Hawke s Bay, New Zealand. Deceased was the owner of * the famous Haddou RisStation in the Riverina. His sale of stud ranis each year averaged £50,000. Fie also owned several racehorses. DUNEDIN, October 30. The death occurred this afternoon of the Mayor of St. Kilda, Mr R. W. Hall. He was proceeding along Eskvale Street, St. Kilda, at 2.30, when he collapsed with a heart seizure, and expired immediately. He had been Mayor of St. "Kilda since 1925. Ho was a member of the Otago Harbour Board, and of the Dunedin Drainage , and Sewerage Board. Deceased was fifty years of age. PALMERSTON N., Oct. 30. The death occurred to-day of Mr » William Henry Smith, a ; well-known 1 newspaper proprietor, who successively controlled the Wairarapa “News” , (now the “ Times ”), which he founded with a partner; the Manawatu Times, which he turned into a daily; and the Rangitikei Advocate, of which lie was 5 editor and manager until his recent retirement. He was a strong advocate of free trade, and in his early years was a prominent cricketer and swimmer. He was 75 years of age. He is survived by a widow* and four daughters.
