TIROROA INQUEST
DULLER RIVER FATALITY. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WESTPORT, October 29. At the inquest on Charles Salter held by-Coroner Fox at Tiroroa, on Monday evening, evidence was given that deceased with F. W. Churchill, went to cross the Ruller River on the I.oth October and deceased apparently failed to slacken off line, with the result that the boat went out into the current almost- broadside on. and capsized. Churchill managed to cling to the boat till rescued, but Salter was carried down stream and sank. The water was very cold, and it is thought he took cramp, r as he was a good swimmer. The verdict was that death was due toVdrowning. caused by the boat in whicli be was crossing the river capsizing, there being no direct evidence to show what caused the boat to capsize.
