A ROUGH TRIP
NGAKUTA DAMAGED. (By Telegraph—-Per Tress Association.), 4 ‘ AUCKLAND, October 29. Deeply laden with coal and showing traces of a tempestuous voyage the Union Company’s steamer Ngakuta reached Auckland this afternoon from Gladstone, Queensland®"' When three days out from Queensland port a heavy Sea was met and a big wave-smashed one of the ports undor. the poop deck. A solid bore of wate& flowed; through, and the crews quarters were flooded. The master of the steamer decided to heave to and while the engineers worked to get a metal plate fixed, over the brokeii port some of the cipw had a, busy time resctifiig their ' effects. The storm lasted four days with high confused seas and heavy rain squalls. After the vessel - Wijs 'on her course again she was swept by a big sea and wat4r found its way *snto the 1 saloon. The steamer was again hove to until repairs were made.
