Tlife “ Daily News’s ” Paris correspondent says: The French Women’s Sports Federation are not allowing women or girls to participate in organised sports unless they possess an approved doctor’s certificate of physical and mental fitness, which must be renewed twice a year. This decision is a concession to the medical view that vigorous field sports are not suitable to women and girls of frail physique and indifferent health. BRITISH CODE. SECURED BY SOVIET. , A FATALITY. ___ . ! 1, ’ LONDON, October 27. Miss Ivy Warner, living near Maidenhead, reached her twenty-first birthday to-day. Her parents gave a dance in the local Warner Memorial Hall on Saturday in honour of the occasion but as a surprise her parents intended to announce the betrothal of Ivy’s sister, Betty, to Russell King, another resident of Maid enhead. Betty, her fiancee and his mother were walking arm in arm en route to the hall when a motor ca v mounted the pavement and knocked down Betty and Mrs Russell arid both died shortly afterwards in the hospital. Russell King was unhurt. The girl’s father is a well known brick manufacturer who presented the hall to the villagers!
SALVATION ARMY. LONDON, October. 27. General Higgins denies that the Salvation Army appealed to America for financial aid. He admitted the self-denial appeal receipts had declined but contributions from Salvationists themselves had shown a generous increase and the public support was gratifying.
DOMINION STATUS COMING. LONDON, October 27. The Government has decided to grant the Dominion status to India, according to the “Sunday Chronicle. A declaration is expected in a few days. It is understood that Cabinet is inviting Indian, leaders and ruling Princes to London to discus® the question. .
