Contracts .covering loans recently awarded to the Oceanic Steamship Company for the coristruction of two combination passenger, and cargo vessels for the Australian .tradri were signed to-day by -the, Ufiited - States Shipping Board, . ,they,representatives of the Oceanic Company) and the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation which will construct the, steamer*. ,
The loans, which amount jff,850,O'OO dollars.for each ship, will.represent three-quarters of the construction cost. Ihe vessels wifi, be of twentyi. knots speed, 'and lyill he superior in type to the others engaged, in, the same trade. Thqy will be among the largest vessels yet undertaken ■by American shipyards.
