A GLUT OF FISH
LIMIT PLACED ON CATCHES. : % THAMES, Oct. 23. Never in its history has the fishing port of Thames. experienced such a period of catches as lias been, the case during the month. So far from seine nesting depleting the supplies of fish ; n Hauraki Gulf, the contrary seems to be the case. Boat after boat comes into port with the gunwales awash, until the cool stores are filled arid the market completely glutted. Every boat is now confined to a, limit. The seine netters are having a fine harvest, while the net men are doing well. A peculiar thing about the recent hauls is the quantity of flounder? landed. This is entirely Contrary to the beliefs of both experts and practical line and net fishermen, who confidently stated there would be an immediate diminution in the supplies of flounder through seine netting. The supplies are greater than ever known lie fore, and show no signs of slackening, while tlie fish are in excellent condition. Jelly fish is confined to the eastern i.ats of the Firth of Thames, while the western shores are free, allowing men to fish without encountering this obnoxious pest.
