SAMOA
AUCKLAND, October 23. i The “Samoan Guardian” states: The “ General” elections in Samoa will be held on November 6th. The new “ Parliament ” of Samoa will consist of two elected Europeans, two handpicked Samoans who will represent themselves mostly, and six civil servants who will represent the Administration. Two elected members in a Legislative Council of Eleven. The President of the Methodist Church tells the Government to wake up and do something in Samoa. “ 5.0.5.” is the new body in Samoa. It stands for the European “Sons of Samoa” who are out to fight the election. In the Samoan Legislative Council the Hon. A. Williams objected to the reduction in the number of elected members, and also the dismissal of Samoa-born public servants.
The Hon. O. F. Nelson has a challenge to Sir Francis Bell, offering £IOO to Jasper Calder’s Mission if the Reform leader . can prove a statement made by him in the Upper House. Two “white elephants ” have been towed from Samoa to Suva. They were steel barges bought by the Administration for lightering fruit. The Colonial Sugar Co bought them at about onethird of their cost.
