EXERCISE HARMFUL TO SOME.

Perhaps those who drive themselves to exercise as a serious duty may take some comfort from the results of a study on the subject by Dr A. V. •Bock, published in “The New England Journal of Medicine.” He says in part: “An hour of exercise added to the schedule of an already fatigued businessman might well be disastrous for him. Time ;-'devoted to exercise should ho taken preferably on a reduced schedule of work associated with freedom from worry and nervous tension. Strenuous exercise for a man at fifty should be avoided unless, it lias been systematically carried on through preceding years. Occasional games of tennis or squash for men in middle life or past whose lives are otherwise sedentary, are likely to produce more damage than good. Exercise planned for the individual;, regularly indulged in over a lifetime l , should yield many dividends of health. Sedentary workers, in our opinion, will be better off in the long run by avoiding occasional participation in strenuous games 01other, forms of severe exercise.”
