PLUNKET SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the Hokitika Sub-Branch of the Plunke't Society was held in St. Andrew’s Hall' on Thursday last. There was a good attendance of members, all of whom displayed much enthusiasm and willingness to assist the Society’s welfare.
Correspondence was read from, the Greymouth Centre asking the, Hokitika Branch to 11 take the responsibility of the whole southern district and to organise the visits to out-stations. The Hokitika Branch will then require to raise about £BO per annum. This was agreed to—-the committee feeling sure that' the out-stations would all be willing to assist the Hokitika Branch financially. The Plunket nurse reported that'periodical visits are made to Ross, Harihari, Wataroa, Matainui and Waiho Gorge; and in this connection the Society’s thanks are due to the local liiotor companies, Newmans Ltd., West Coast Motors and Har.court’s Motors, for their generosity in conveying the Plunket nurse free of charge, on her southern visits.
At present, lhemhers from Kanieri, Woodstock, Mananui, Ruatapu, Kokatahi and Koiterangiy attend at the Hokitika i-ooms, but the nurse hopes to be able to arrange an occasional visit to these districts. The election of officers resulted as follows: President: Mrs H. D. Hayes. Treasurer: Mrs S. Bassett. Secretary: Mrs Geo. Perry. It was decided that a plunket Ball be held at a later date, and the matter was left in the hands of Mesdames Baird,’ Hayes and Guthrey to arrange. There was also a suggestion that a children’s party, he held in December at which Girl Guides and Brownies be asked to assist. The Committee in charge of this function consists of. Mesdames S. Bassett (convenor), Garnet Perry, Burns, Hayes, Fade, W. Stopforth and T. Staines junr. The Seci’etary was instructed to write to the outstations, suggesting that they assist either by efforts in their own districts of by providing a produce stall in town at a convenient date.
The Society’s thanks are due to severa private car owners: — Mesdames Urquliai't, D. Stuart, Langford. Berendt, Guthrey, Robinson, Bassett and Renton, who during the year have voluntarily assisted the Plunket Nurse by driving her on her rounds especially in wet weather ; and also to the local press for their coui'tesy in publishing the weekly Plunket notices.
