/A meeting of the Hokitika Junior . Pigeon Club will be held at the usual place at 7 o’clock sharp on Friday evening. A fulL attendance is requested. E. Findlay, Sec.—Advt. An unusual incident caused a short delay in the discharging of the cargo of guano at Dunedin on Tuesday morning from one of the holds of the steamer Commandant Destremau, AA'hich arrived at Port Chalmers on Sunday from Walpole Island, via Lyttelton. While one of the. men Was. shovelling loose .guano into the baskets conveying it to the railway waggons he uncovered a 1 ive snake, Avhich had presumably got on board cvhile the guano was being loaded at Walpole Island. The snake, which Avas marked by Avhite and black rings round its body, was nearly three feet long, and the Avorkmen stood aside to observe its Avriggling movements. One of the creAv, an Islander, Avent doAA-n into the hold, placed his foot on its head, caught it firmly by the neck, and carried it up the ladder to the deck, where it Avas killed.
