’XMAS PENSIONS. [By Telegraph, Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 24. That recipients of old age, widows’ and other pensions may secure monthly payment before 'Xmas, Hon.'W.' .A. Veltch has arranged that' January instalments be paid from December 20th. In the ordinary way family allowances are paid on the 25th of each month, but this special arrangement will not only be more convenient to pensioners, but relieve congestion at Post OLees. TASMANIAN FARMERS VISIT. WELLINGTON, October 24. - A party of Tasmanian farmers who have been touring .the South Island for the past ten days, arrived from the south this morn'ing and spending the day about Wellington and Hutt Valley. They go on to Palmerston North this evening. DRUNKEN MOTOR CAR DRIVER, CHRISTCHURCH, October 24. • A charge of being found intoxicated in charge of -a motor car in Cathedral Square was preferred against George . Exton, . aged forty, a black-' smith. The accused had twice previously been convicted for a similar offence.
