Two prisoners appeared before MrF. W. Shallcrass, J.P., at the Grey mouth Court yesterday. Fong Sum. 33, charged with the attempted murder Of John McKay, at Westport.on, October o } was remanded until October 29 when a 'further remand will be applied for by" : the police, probably,, until November 6. The; charge will be beatd at Westport. It arose out of an incident on a steamer in the roadstead, , when McKay was stabbed. He is mak-, mg a satisfactory recovery, but is not yet fit to appear in Court. Meanwhile, Fong Sum, is being kept in custody in Grey mouth, there being no suitable prison accommodation at Westport. The second prisoner was James Milford Cummings, 21, who is charged with alleged carnal knowledge of a girl 14 years of age, at Westport on October 12. He was also remanded; until October 29, on the application of Senior-Sergeant C. E. Roach. Neither of the accused men was represented by counsel.
