Twenty-two unions embracing 150,030 employees in the wool trade in Bradford district - rejected the employers’ proposals for a reduction of 8.3 per cent in wages, by 79.67 per cent to 16.64,with 5.59 neutral. The reduction involved an average loss of 4.7 out of 54.10 weekly for men and 2.8 out of 32.3 for women. Employers, who previously rejected the arbitration proposal replied regretting “ the operatives had chosen to ignore the position and the needs of the industry. The negotiations must therefore be considered ended.” Several firms have already individually given notice of ten per cent reductions.
A meeting, of the National Union of Textile Unions will be held on 26th October. District Councils have already been appointed.
