GOVERNOR RESIGNS. THE KING’S APPRECIATION. RUGBY, Oct. 18. Sir Hugh Clifford, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Straits Settlements, and High Odmmissioner for the Malay States, has asked for permission to resign from his office on account of the ill-health of Lady Clifford They will return to England.. The following telegram has been sent by the Colonial 'Secretary, Lord Passfield, to Sir Hugh Clifford: “I am commanded by His Majesty the King to inform you that he accepts your resignation, and that he is much distressed to hear the reason which has necessitated it. The King much appreciates the long and distinguished services which you have rendered to the Empire.” <
