Giving evidence before the- Coal Commission here; Stanley‘McKinsey, Supt. of the Hebburn Collieries-. Ltd.,! declared that during ,the sjx years pre 7 ceding 1928 there, were 119 strikes at Hebburn Noi 2’colliery, involving the loss of 39! woriring days. The fact that miners would strike if any man was dismissed, led to inefficiency,, with the result tliat his company had not dismissed any member of the Miners’ Federation for twelve years. The high cost of a stoppage .made the company hesitate about dismissing troublesome or difficult employees.
