PAKIHI LANDS

BULLJEiR EXPERIMENTS. (By Telegraph —Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, October 19. Experiments are to bo carried out by the Agricultural Department regarding Pakihi lands. Mr H. E. Holland (Bailor) asked the IVlinister of Agriculture whether he proposed tri take immediate steps to give effect to the recommendations made by 'lds officers as a result of what they saw on the Cawthron experimental' area at Fairdown to have the problem of Pakilii lands attacked on a farm, scale with the Department working in c‘ooipcjratioii,. with the Cawthron Institute. It was the opinion of those conversant wfith the subject, that a farm scale experiment, as suggested: would materially hasten the bringing of the Pakiliis into active dairying. The Hon. J. W. Forbes (Minister .of Agriculture) replied that the Department proposed to break in an area of Pakihi country on a sufficiently large scale to determine whether development of this land for fanning purposes was economically sound. Arrangements had teen made for close co-operation with the officers of tlu Cawthron Institute it) carrying out the. work.
