OPIUM DISCOVERED
IN POSTAL PACKET. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, October 18. At the Police Court, James Williams, who admitted having been found with, opium in his possession, was convicted and fined £4O and costs. Defendant said ho had bean requested by a man named A. E. Reid, who gave his address as the Club Hotel, Palmerston North, to collect a parcel for him at the General Post Office, Wellington. He did not know what was'in the parcel. Detective Robinson stated that the wrapping round the parcel became loose in the Post Office, and one of the clerks discovered it contained twelve tins of opium. When Williams called for the parcel, which was addressed to Reid, lie was arrested. Efforts to trace Reid had failed.
