OBITUARY
ADA CROSSLEY. , (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, October 17. The death is announced of Ada Crossley, otherwise, known. as Mrs Muecke. ’ J Her death came as a great shock to numerous friends. She has, had indifferent health during' the past year,' but latterly appeared a little better. Last week she was efirifined to bed, blit became gradually worse to-day, and died at six to-night from 'cerebral haemorrhage, in a West End hospital. Although he realised that her condition was serious, Dr Muecke to-night stated that the'end was not expected. A service has been -arranged at All Souls’ Church, Marylebone, nearby the residence, on Monday. The interment takes place at Golders Green. ihe “Daily Telegraph,” in the course of a striking tribute, entitled “ A Queen of Song,” says although it is some years since the deceased retired from the concert platform, there still lingers the memory o.f her striking beauty of voice, with strango smoothness of quality and almost' equally fine natural pi’oduction This recalls a tribute from Sir Arthur Sullivan in 1898, when at a performance of “ Elijah,” in which Ada Crossley was not engaged to sing, but, as the contralto soloist did not appear, owing to a mistake, she was asked to do so by Sir Arthur Sullivan, who was conducting. She was sitting in tho front row. Ada Crossley, who knew Oratorio perfectly, stepped into the breach, with immense success. ... ..
