The process of reorganising Bn • tain’s staple industries proceeds slowly, and yesterday was an important day for the coal trade. A Cabinet Committee .consisting of Messrs J. H. Thomas, Graham and Ben Turner, received the coal owners. The coal owners presented their marketing scheme.
Then the Committee received the coal miners’ leaders, to whom .Mr Thomas outlined the Government’s proposals, and also the main features of the coal owners’ scheme , for. the organisation of the industry. The co-ordinating of coal marketing will operate from January next. This 's subject to. the representation of i’m miners and of the. consumers on tin National Committee for which the coal owners had not provided. The miners will be. given'- their .choice of a uniform working day o r seven and a-lialf hours, ipjiis winding time: or eight boors banjt-tb-bank.. There is to be no reduction in wages. The mineral royalties are to he nationalised. Pensions and minimum wages av< '-o be the subject of future legislation.
