A VAGABOND

WELLINGTON, October 17. William diaries Lowe, 37, was charged with vagrancy and being a rogue and vagabond in that lie had imposed on a man with a view to obtaining money. He was to-day given tiuee muniLs 2Ty Mr Page, b.M. He was described as a married man with a wife and fluid, who tor a considerable time past has done no work but had been living on charitably disposed persons by representing he had employment to go to out of Wellington, and using the money ootained for train 'lares lor mher purposes.

AERO CLUB BALL. HASTINGS, October 17. At the Hawke’s Bay Aero Club Ball last evening, Wing-Commander Grant Dalton presented a license and flying certificates to Mrs Richmond (the first woman in Hawke’s Bay to gain a pilot’s license), Messrs J. Stead, G. Field, M. Field, D. Newbigin, P. Barker, lari McLeod, Ewen Campbell, J. Pallot (all of Hastings) and J. Nicholas (Hawera). The candidates were examined yesterday.

A SHEEP DEAL

MASTERTON, October 17

Reserved judgment was delivered this morning by Mr Miller, S.M., in a case in which A. G. and A. H. Tinkham claimed from J. S. Jessep, £475 damages for alleged breach of warranty in connection with the sale of 547 ewes in August, 1928, by defendant to plaintiffs. It is stated to be the first case of the kind in New Zealand. Mr Miller said he was satisfied that Tinklmm, senr. bought in the usual market, ewes which had run with rams in accordance with the usage off the trade and that the price was based on a low percentage and in keeping with the percentage he actually obtained. Having protected himself by fixing this price, he now seeks to recover something he did not pay for by saying he had a warranty that. he was, to get a fair percentage. He cahnot have double protection. Judgment was given for defendant with costs.

CYCLING UNION. COMPETITORS FINED. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 17. At a meeting of the North Canterbury Centre of the New' Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union, it was decided to fine the cyclists, W. K. Weir, G. Baines, R. Good and F. Dawson, £1 each, for riding part of the way in the Timaru-Christchurch Road Race in motor cars. When near Christchurch they got out and completed the journey on cycles.

In connection with the recent Round the Gorges Race, it was reported that several of the Union’s registered riders had interfered with the race, it was decided to write to the riders concerned, asking for an explanation.
