LATE LOCALS.
The golden wedding of Mr and Mrs Jacob Baty, of 21 Papanui road, Christchurch, who were married in Weardale, Etigland, on October 12th. 1879,. was celebrated on Saturday at Coal Creek, when about a hundred relatives and friends foregathered. After a short service by the Rev. G. E. Brown, the celebration breakfast was partaken, when toasts were honoured and congratulatory speeches made. Air and Airs Baty were the recipients of a large number of substantial presents, which included two Morris chairs from the members of the Baty family, and a rose bowl from the employees of T. B. Baty, Ltd. Air and Mrs Baty arrived at Dunedin in 1880 by the Margaret Galbraith. They settled in Greyraouth in 1885, going to reside in Christchurch nine years ago. There are five sons and four daughters in the family, and 30 grandchildren. A thanksgiving service was held in the Methodist Church on Sunday. The visitors from other parts of New Zealand, numbering forty,, were taken to Punakaiki on Monday, and wefe entertained at a social gathering in the evening.
