AIPSHIP R 101

HOLDING A TRIAL RUN. (Received this day at 10 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 14. Escorted by three areoplanes, the progress of RlOl was watched by ( many thousands from Cardington, especially in London, where city workers stopped traffic gazing up at the giant airship flying low and rapidly. Major Scott, who commanded the British airship which crossed the Atlantic, also commanded the R.lOl, which left the mooring tower easily and manoeuvred for half an hour swinging into the wind, rising and falling slowly. It flew over West End, Westminster, down the Thames to the City, turned above St. Paul’s and departed northwards.
