LINER HOCHST
EXPLODES AFTER. FIRE. (Received this day at 9.25 a.m.) COLOMBO, October 14. Tbe German cargo liner Hoclist exploded off Minieoy Island, where she was stranded on a reef. For twenty days a fire raged and tbe crew of twenty-eight took to the lifeboats alter sending a radio S.O.S. Tbe liner Mathura rushed to the rescue and saved all the crew. There is no news of tbe captain of the German liner Lauterfels now oil the reef, three attempts to tow her off failing, 'flic Lautcnfels bad one woman passenger. She donned a boiler suit and was lowered by ropes to lifeboats and taken on board a passing liner. T! te Hoclist wireless was sent only just in time, a second'explosion blowing tbe transmitter to pieces. PROGRESS OF VESSEL IMPEDED. CHRISTCHURCH, October 15. Nineteen members of tbe crew of the Larbath appeared before Mr Young, S.M., at Lyttelton yesterday. Each was charged that on October Oth at Lyttelton be was guilty of combining with others-of the crew to impede the progress of tbe voyage. Accused were remanded to appear at Lyttelton on Wednesday. A
