REBUILDING OF- OLD SECTION

WELLINGTON, Oct. 10

A hint that the old wooden wing of Parliament Building might in the near future be replaced, thus advancing the scheme for providing New Zealand with a worthy legislative home in harmony with the central quarters which have now housed the main activities of Parliament (for several years was given by the Minister for Public Works, the Hon. Mr Ransom, when replying in the House to-day to questions raised on tho Public Buildings Estimates, Tho subject was introduced by Mr F. Langstone (Lab., Waimarino), who described the old wing, particularly the portion housing Bellamy’s us antiquated and horrible, The tea rooms were a disgrace to New Zealand, while tlie Innumerable corridors, along which waiters armed with plates and food had ho scurry, were most awkward. During the coming recess he suggested that the Government might effect a marvellous improvement by reorganising that part of tho establishment. Probably the present wooden building would have tq serve for a good many years, hut the arrangement of Therooms could be considerably reoii/nnised.

The Minister said that before any serious alterations were made to the old building the Government wanted to consider the possibility of tho new wing. He thought that in dim near future tho old wing would, have to go.
