The workmen who have been employed for some time on Dorothy Road at Lake Kanieri, finished up on Saturday and struck camp. Before the road can be extended further an exploration of the route and a suhvey are necessary. An officer has been detailed for the work,...and..will attend to it as soon as possible. When a further section is laid off it is expected men will be put on the. construction work, and the road carried on to the first objective—Dorothy Falls.’ Mr Bernard Ward, County Chairman, accompanied by Mr E. A. Wells, M.C.C. and Mr Millner, County Overseer, paid a visit south as far as Okarito during the week-end. The various settlements at Waitaha, Kakapotahi, flarihari, and Wataroa were visited, and the party then went on to Okarito Forks and Okarito. From the lastnamed Mr Ward and party went over the major portion of Three Mile Track, wnich is now in continuous use for the Okarito-Five Mile dredging operations, all the material practically being transported by that route. The route is of scenic value, and just at present clematis is prevalent in great profusion, while the rata ' is coming into bloom already. During the inspection of the roads at Harihari,. Mr Ward was accoinpanid by Mr Searle, M.C.C., tnd at Okarito by Mr J. Donovan. M.C.C. Various matters were looked into, and 'attended to;- ‘ Further work regarding'maintenance was authorised to the Three Mile Track.

A fire; which might. have been of serious consequences was arrested this afternoon. It appears that some gorst was being burnt on the Cemetery Hill when the fire managed to get out of control and as a result the residence o' Miss Ward was in danger. However, a fire reel was requisitioned and sen! to the. scene.
