A fire in the town of Tally, in Queensland, caused damage amounting to twenty thousand sterling, when a number of buildings were destroyed. The heat was so intense that the shops on the opposite side of the street caught fire. ISLAND TRADER SAFE. SUVA, Oct. 12. A trader, Lazarus, has been missing for several months from the British Solomon Islands, in the auxiliary vessel Hart. A search by the Government steamer Ranadi, proved fruitless. The High Commissioner at Suva today received a wireless message from the Resident Commissioner in the Solomons to the effect that he was pleased to report that Lazarus was picked up by the trader Jones, at Mucapu, and now, - with tne crew, was at Reef Island, awaiting the mission yacht “Southern Cross,” to proceed to Tulagai.
