RACES. ; i NIGHTMARCH AGAIN. r:: ' ■ SYDNEY, October 13. • The : Australian ; Jockey; Club . was favoured with fine weather and a large attendance for the concluding day of its Spring . Carnival at Randwick on Saturday. The trask was slow, due to recent wet weather.
The New Zealand horse Green Lin net received pronounced support from his connections in the Canonbury Stakes, but ran poorly, and finished at the rear of the field.
First Acre made a splendid bid for victory in the Waverley Handicap, but he weakened in his final stride, thereby losing the race by half a head,
The N.Z. steeplechaser Home Made appeared a possibility, but he hit several fences in ! the latter-stages; of the' race, causing him to we’aken ’at/the. finish.
Nightmarch established himself as a great horse by.; brilliantly' capturing the Randwick Plate. Running last most of the-journey, he came in.the' final strides, and smothered the opposition, gaining the verdict by two lengths. Results:— Canonbury Stakes.—David . Day 1, Veilmoqd 2, Tartana 3. . DISASTROUS WESTR ALIAN STEEPLES. PERTH, October 13. Out of five horses which started in the West ra Ban Centenary Steeplechase yesterday, only two finished. Ted win and Autumn Day were killed, and three jockeys, Seastream. Brooks and Boots were seriously injured. LONDON, Odtober 12. The Duke of York Handicap resulted :—Double Life 1, King’s Over 2.
