MONTREAL, August 26. The largest lawsuit Canada has known started at noon to-day with the posting of a notice at the Superior Court by the heirs of Lieut, Tessier (dit Lavigne) notifying the Seminary, of St. Sulpice, the owners of, a valuable section in the centre of Montreal, that an action for £2OO,(XX),OCO damages will be commenced in the local courts. There are 800 known heirs of Lieut, Tessier, to whom it is claimed, Maisonneuve, the founder pf Montreal, ceded in 1654 for bravery in defending the island many acres of land. These include the site of the Notre Dame Cathedral, several banks, and large office buildings in the, neighbourhood of the Place d’Armes.
