, . FOREIGN MISSIONS. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND}! October 11. 1 “Missionary' Day’’ was observed to-day at the annual conference of the New Zealand Baptist Union. 'Reports were received from the mission fields, and ,the conference discussed various aspects of the work. The Chairman of the Finance Committee, Mr E. H. N. Andrews, drew attention to the splendid response made by New Zealand Baptists to appeals Urom the Indian mission field. The sum of £7046 ha ; d been raised during the year. Miss E. M. Gainsford, Secretary of the , Baptist Women’s Missionary Union, reported that there was a total 'of, 68 branches in the Union, and, there had been an increase in membership of 20 during the year. Miss N. Wilkinson, Treasured, reported k that the receipts for the year totalled £1653, compared with £1662 in the previous year. There was a balance in hand of £34. Tfye’ missionary budget for the year ending August 31, 1930, estimated the receipts at £6745, and the payments at £6763. Speakers criticised the cutting down of the grant for the Indian mission work, and it was decided to circularise the budget to the city churchfes in an endeavour to create greater interest in the work. The-budget was adapted.
