PLUNKET WORK IN AUSTRALIA
SIR TRUDY KING’S VISIT. AUCKLAND, October 8. Australia is becoming increasingly interested in the reduction of maternal and infantile mortality along the lines adopted in New Zealand by the Plunket Society, according to Sir Trilby .King, who returned from another visit to the Commonwealth by the Maunganui. Sir Trubv attended the Australian and New Zealand Medical Congress a,t Sydney and later visited Melbourne. Tn Melbourne the Plunket movement was gaining widespread recognition, Sir Trubv said. Additional Plunket rooms had been opened, and the Karitane Hospital at Footsoray was doing excellent work. Additions were being made to the Sydney Karitane Hospital, and a branch of the New Zealand Karitane Product Society had been established. It would soon be in full working order, and the various Karitane products would he available at cheaper prices. The Plunket movement had now spread to Tasmania. Hobart had its baby hospital, and Plunket nurses were working over a wide area. Altogether Australia was embarking on a very hopeful “Save the Babies” campaign.
/Sir Trubv also referred to the a:im of the Plunket Society to extend its work to provide for children between infancy and school age. This had always l>een kept in vieiv, but the Society hoped to do more, in this direction, especially if increased funds were available to obtain the services of additional nurses. Sir Trubv King left for the south bv train to-night. Ho will give a public lecture at Christ clinch and attend the opening of the nurses’ lectures at the Karitane Hospital.
