BANK RETURNS
FOR SEPTEMBER QUARTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, October 11. Bank returns for September quarter disclose a healthy monetary condition. One feature is that the spendng power is higher than a year ago by £729,107. All classes of deposits have increased as compared with the same period in 1928, the total increase being £3,143,061, of which Government money is £1,170,453. The increase in fixed deposits is £1,349,277. Aggregate deposits, excluding Government, are £54,568,626, which is the highest of any September quartei for five years. The advances show an increase of over 4$ millions. The figures qs a whole are considered quite satisfactory, and show sound economic conditions. The official statement, however, concludes by saying: “There is still an apparent lack of confidence for which there really is no warrant.”
