A middle-aged man collapsed while waiting in the queue outside the Labour Lepartment’s unemployment bureau this morning, the cause attiibute'd being starvation. Vv hen the man foil on the footpath the other unemployed mien tried to bring him round. He appeared to be. in a had way and was taken to the Auckland Hospital. AVheii the cause of his collapse was found lie was given attention, and later was taken hy Ambulance to. the Auckland Hospital Board’s relief office. Here it was arranged to see that the- man hail a meal and accommodation for a weefe at the Salvation Army Home. “The medical superintendent of tlie Auckland Hospital (Dr Maguire) has said time and again that sickness has oeen greatly -increased as the result of the lower standard of living caused by unemployment,” said the chairman of the Hospital Board (Mr William AVallaoe) when the case of the man was brought to his notice. “Thei' e I s .P° question, about it,” he added. . “I get cases before me that I really ; don’t kpow yviiat to,do yvitli.’’ .-. jv
