MELBOURNE - BLUFF SERVICE

. CURTAILMENT IN WINTER, i DUNEDIN, Oct. 9. A letter was received at last night’s meeting of the Dunedin Chamber oi Commerce from the Postmaster-General (the Hon Mr Donald), who forwarded details of the Melbourne-Bluff shipping service, and intimated that four calls would be made at Milford Sound during the summer months. He also stated that during the winter monthsthe service would be kept going by only one vessel via Bluff.

The secretary reported that a reply had been sent stating that the Chamber and business people would give the service every support, but it was felt that the reversion to a three-weekh sailing in the winter months would militate against the service owing to the uncertainty of the dates of sailing and the difficulty of connections with overseas vessels at Melbourne. Copies of the letter were sent to the associated public bodies in the South Island, and also to the Hobart Chamber of Commerce.

The chairman (Mr A. H. Allen) expressed regret that the service was not to be uniform all the year round, as that would have added greatly to its success.

The executive’s action was approved
