BUSH FIRE
OUTBREAK THREATENS OTAR Alt A. (By Telegraph—Press Association). INVERCARGILL, Oct. 7. About one hundred acres of bush at Otatara ,a few miles from Invercargill, were destroyed by fire this afternoon. At one time the fire was burning so fiercely that it seemed that nothing could prevent the flames, which were fanned by a strong wind, sweeping across a much wider area and destroying a number, of summer residences in the locality. Although several houses were in imminent danger, only one was destroyed. Bucket brigades had a strenuous time and they put in some splendid work in keeping the fire from doing more' extensive dar age.
The outbreak had died down appreciably this evening.
