The Australian Jockey Club were favoured with ideal weather and an attendance of seventy-eight thousand for the opening day of tlieir spring carnival of Randw'ick on Saturday. Honour’s galloping companion, Jaloux, gave a sterling performance in the Trial Stakes, but was in a bad position on entering the straight. However, it got clear and put in a brilliant finish, but missed first honours by half a' length. New' Zealand’s Derby hope, Honour, enjoved a splendid run throughout, and was always prominent, but - was-

unable to make an impression on the winner in the run home. Limerick’s absence in the Spring Stakes robbed this race of much interest, leaving Winalot almost certain of victory.
