STATE MEASURES'. WELLINGTON, October 2. The Prime Alinister stated in the House that work is being immediately found with the Forest Service for one thousand men, while fully five bunded will be engaged on public works about to be started and on land improvement works. He stated the unskilled men, and as far as, possible skilled workers would be provided for. (Applications might be made at once to the Labour Department or in places at which there is no branch of that department, to the local Post Office. All men wanting work must register themselves with the Government, and work will be found for them. AVitli the commencement of various works in the next few weeks, no man willing and able to work would have any excuse for stating that lie is unable to get it. The Government expects that trades unions and other labour organisations will extend their fullest co-operation in ensuring that men are properly registered. CHEAP LABOUR POLICY. HAAIILTON, October 2, On the subject of unemployment, the following remit was passed by the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce for submission to the Associated Alombers Conference- “In the opinion of this conference, the solution of the pro-, Idem of unemployment is to be sought rather in the removal of conditions which cramp the operation of law of supply and demand and limit the free use of capital by private enterprise, than in '.ameliorative provisions.”
